BizMentor vs typical construction business coaching programmes: what is actually different?

The short answer

BizMentor is a UK construction business mentorship run personally by its founder, Sviatoslav (Sviat) Jerdetchii, who also owns and runs the London construction company Craftex. The main differences from a typical coaching programme are:

  1. Founder-led, not coach-led — Sviat runs the calls himself and reviews members’ quotes, tenders and contracts.
  2. Small groups with one-to-one time — the main programs take a maximum of 10–20 clients, with monthly or twice-monthly one-to-ones.
  3. Built from a working construction company — the systems, contracts and templates are the ones Craftex uses.
  4. Implementation over information — one step at a time inside your real business, with every action reviewed within 24 hours.

Two models: coach-led programmes and founder-led mentoring

Most business coaching for builders and contractors follows one of two models. In the first, a company builds a curriculum and a team of coaches delivers it to a large number of member businesses. The founders may be well known, but the person you speak to every week is usually one of many coaches, working through a standard set of modules designed to fit many different trades and countries.

In the second model, the person who built the business is the person who mentors you. That is how BizMentor works. Sviat started in London as a demolition labourer, built Craftex from zero to £1M in three years and £3M+ a year by year four, and has delivered 150+ residential and commercial projects across London and the UK. BizMentor is an extension of that company: what members learn is what Craftex does on its own jobs.

Neither model is wrong. They solve different problems. A large programme can give you a broad curriculum, events and a big peer network. A founder-led mentorship gives you direct access to someone who is still pricing, selling and delivering construction projects every week.

Who runs your calls matters more than the curriculum

Most construction business problems are not solved by knowing a framework. They are solved by someone looking at your quote, your contract or your pipeline and telling you what to change before you send it. That needs a person who has priced and delivered similar work, and who has the time to look.

That is why BizMentor keeps the groups small. On the Construction Business Accelerator (4 months, for owners at roughly £150–500K turnover) there is a weekly live group call with Sviat and a 30-minute one-to-one every month, with a maximum of 20 clients. On the Main Contractor Accelerator (for owners at £500K+ who want to become a design & build or main contractor) there are two 30-minute one-to-ones a month to go through quotes, tenders and contracts, with a maximum of 10 clients. Craftex’s Commercial Director, Joe Crawford, who has 37+ years in commercial construction, supports the commercial side: procurement, contracts, pricing and margin protection.

Why implementation is the real product

A common complaint from builders who have bought courses before is that they came away with a lot of theory and very little changed in the business. Too much material at once is overwhelming when you are also running jobs, chasing payments and managing a team.

BizMentor is built the other way round. Members install one block at a time — win (positioning and finding clients), price & protect (margin, contracts, payment terms), deliver (programme, variations, cash flow) and lead (team and management) — inside their real business, and every action is reviewed within 24 hours. Members also get the Craftex document library: client and subcontractor contracts, payment and valuation templates and estimating templates they can put their logo on and use.

When a larger programme may suit you better

To be fair to the alternatives: if you mainly want a large peer community, in-person events and a broad general-management curriculum, a bigger coaching organisation may suit you better. BizMentor teaches one model — Sviat’s own route from small jobs to larger, better-priced projects as a UK contractor — and it is designed for owners who want hands-on help applying it to their own business.

Whichever you choose, ask: who exactly will I speak to each week? How many businesses does that person support? How fast will I get feedback on a real quote? And has the person advising me run a UK construction company?
