The Business That Runs Without You
How it’s scored

Scored against the rules of thumb we use at Craftex

Each answer scores 0 to 3 points. Each area becomes a score out of 100, and your overall score is the average of the six. The healthy ranges come from our Construction Business Health Check: the rules of thumb we use at Craftex and with our clients. Your trade and market may differ.

Then pick one area to fix in the next 90 days. Your result shows the leak and the first fix for your two weakest areas.

  1. 0–44Running on effort. The business works because you work. Fix the weakest area first, one at a time.
  2. 45–74Partly in control. Some of the structure is in place. The two areas below are holding the rest back.
  3. 75–100Running on systems. Most of the basics are in place. Growth now comes from bigger jobs and a team that runs without you.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a construction business health check?

A short review of the numbers and habits that decide whether a building company makes money: where work comes from, how you sell and price, cash flow, systems and how your time is spent. This scorecard does it in 18 multiple-choice questions.

How is the scorecard scored?

Each answer scores 0 to 3 points against the rules of thumb we use at Craftex and with our clients. Each of the six areas becomes a score out of 100, and your overall score is the average of the six.

Do I need to give my email to see my score?

No. Your overall score and your two weakest areas appear on screen as soon as you finish. To see the full breakdown, leave your first name, mobile number, email and company name. It opens straight away, and our team can go through it with you on a free 1-on-1 call.

What is a good score?

75 or more means most of the basics are in place. 45 to 74 means some structure is there but one or two areas hold the rest back. Under 45 means the business runs on your effort. The healthy ranges are rules of thumb, and your trade and market may differ.

Who is the scorecard for?

Owners of UK construction and trade businesses: builders, main contractors and subcontractors, from firms with a few people to established companies turning over £500K or more.

What happens on the free call?

A few short questions about your business, then a free 1-on-1 call with our team. You leave with a plan for your next 90 days, even if we're not a fit.
